January STEM Star: Shruti Sharma

Meet our January STEM Star, Shruti Sharma! A current PhD Candidate in the Department of Physics at the University of Cambridge, she has a background in materials science. We sat down to talk with her about the current state of physics, her work and how you can learn more about this field! 1. When did your interest in physics first start? While in school, I liked the social sciences as well as the sciences. I remember when I first took physics, it was immensely challenging and I enjoyed pushing myself in a field that didn’t seem to come naturally. I also like how physics could be applied to everyday life; in particular, it seemed rather romantic to be able crack the mysteries...

June's "Build It" STEM Star: Kim Dow!

Today we officially kick off the month of June and we couldn’t think of any better way of doing that than by introducing our June STEM Star! Our theme for June is “Build It,” which celebrates the tools of science! From screwdrivers to calipers, wrenches to bubble levels, for us, this month is all about the tools we use to build and study, create and discover! It seems only appropriate, then, that this month’s STEM Star is someone intimately involved with the maker movement. What’s the maker movement, you ask? Well, Wikipedia describes it as “a social movement with an artisan spirit in which the methods of digital fabrication—previously the exclusive domain of institutions—have become accessible at a personal scale.” Put...

Meet the Team: Jordan

If you’ve followed Sci Chic on social media or in the news, you probably know our founder and CEO, Erin Winick. She’s pretty awesome (though, admittedly, we’re a tad biased). Last week in this series, you met Alex, the creative mind behind the website and digital design here at Sci Chic. Today, we’d like to introduce you to another extremely valuable member of our team! Jordan runs our 3D printers and manages our 3D modeling. This week we sat down with her to talk about her work, her passions, and...

The Delicious Side of Science!

It’s no secret that we here at Sci Chic are fans of science inspired art. Our love for it extends far beyond our own jewelry, however. We love science art of all shapes and sizes. Even (or maybe we should say especially) science art that comes in the form of delicious baked goods! When we came across these marvelous science art masterpieces, there wasn’t any question whether or not we were going to write a blog post on them. If you’re not hungry, you will be after this post. Hungry for science, that is! And cake too, probably. It was just a usual day on our Twitter feed earlier this week until we stumbled across a tweet from Keren Sharon (@kerensharon1)....

Sparking everyday conversations about science

It’s our mission here at Sci Chic to spark everyday conversations about science through our fashionable, science inspired jewelry. But how exactly do we accomplish that mission? Well, there are a variety of ways, and today we’d like to highlight one of them. Our monthly subscription boxes launched this past January, and since then they’ve become our most popular offering. We’re ecstatic about this for a number of reasons, but primarily because they are custom tailored to spread our mission. Each box comes with an abundance of science inspired fashion and it’s our goal to ensure every piece in your box is fashionable enough to grab attention and spark a conversation. After all, if we get more people talking about...
