If you’ve followed Sci Chic on social media or in the news, you probably know our founder and CEO, Erin Winick. She’s pretty awesome (though, admittedly, we’re a tad biased). But Sci Chic is bigger than just one person. In fact, we have a growing team of spectacular people working behind the scenes and we’d like you to meet them!
Thus, we’re launching this mini-series of blogs to introduce you to our team members! This week’s feature is on Alex Anthony (left below)!
Alex is in charge of the website and digital design here at Sci Chic, but as with all of our team members, he’s skilled in a variety of different areas and helps out in many ways.
We sat down with Alex to talk about his work, his passions, and his life beyond spreading the fashionable side of science.
Your bio says you handle website and digital design, but how would you describe what you do at Sci Chic?
Well, for the digital design part I fiddle around in graphic design programs to make cool graphics and advertisements. Our design and style is constantly evolving, so I like to spend time imagining how we can make things more chic. For the website part I mostly tweak existing pages and keep our blog up to date.
Hold up, you manage the blog here? Does that mean you’re interviewing yourself for this?
Shhhh. Don’t tell anyone.
Uh, well moving on...what’s your favorite area of science, and why?
I’d have to go with meteorology. I grew up hiking, and during those hikes the weather was always an important factor. Paying attention to it helped me grow an interest in it. Now the weather channel is pretty much my favorite thing on TV and I love watching the skies for storm systems. Also, living in Florida has really allowed me to appreciate the beauty of thunder and lightning. There’s nothing as awe inspiring as a powerful thunderstorm!
What’s a personal touch you bring to Sci Chic?
I get to write puns for the product descriptions! I haven’t written one for every description, but I’m working on it. Hopefully, long after I’m gone, my memory will live on through those wonderful, wonderful science puns.
Okay, so we know what you do in the office, but what do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I like to spend my time writing fiction, playing video games, and hiking. I’m also down to play pretty much any sport that involves teamwork. Soccer, hockey, tennis, football, etc., as long as the Florida heat isn’t too oppressive.
Wait, hockey? In Florida?
It does exist, believe it or not! I still have a lot to learn, but there are plenty of rinks around the state where you can learn to ice skate and play the game! It’s not all sunshine and beaches here. Just mostly sunshine and beaches.
Okay, last question. If you could leave one lasting legacy at Sci Chic, what would it be? How would you like to change the company for the better?
Aside from my legacy of science puns, I’d like to help really establish Sci Chic’s “look” going forward. I love what our mission is here, and I know that having a look that supports that mission is critical to telling people who we are and what we do. It’s a difficult thing to nail down, but I think we’re getting there.

And that’s it for this week’s interview. Thank you for stopping by, we hope you enjoyed meeting the awesome guy behind our website management and digital design! You can read Alex’s full bio here.
Next week we’ll be interviewing Jordan Pfost. Assuming we can pull her away from the 3D printers, of course. Stay tuned!Liquid error: Could not find asset snippets/relatedblogs.liquid
